Leonard Nimoy's incredible life in pictures

When Leonard Nimoy landed his iconic role as Spock on Star Trek in 1966, it came with a lot of opportunities for the actor.

He posed on red carpets, traveled the world meeting Trekkies, hung out with William Shatner and rubbed elbows with real-life astronauts.

Nimoy also wrote a book called I Am Not Spock and another called I Am Spock, while pursuing his interests in music and poetry. He even traveled back to his hometown in 2012 to pick up an honorary doctorate degree from Boston University at the age of 81.
