No one knows over-the-top adoption drama more than Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig, so the duo teamed up to star in a made-for-TV Lifetime film. But when news of the "top-secret" project leaked, the comedians killed it.

No, this is not a belated April Fools' joke.

Announcing the project's cancellation Thursday, Wiig and Ferrell, who is also serving as executive producer, said in a statement they were disappointed that the project was no longer under wraps.

The Hollywood Reporter revealed earlier Thursday that the actors secretly filmed A Deadly Adoption. Lifetime confirmed the clandestine movie, which seemed like a natural fit for the network, but did not immediately comment on the project's abrupt end.

The film was to center on a successful couple (Ferrell and Wiig) caring for a pregnant woman in hopes of adopting her child -- with a catch.

The movie, described as "campy and fun" by THR, had already been taped, according to Lifetime, and was set to air this summer.
