Ed Sheeran asked for some loving in his song "Give Me Love" in 2011, and since then, the British singer's fans have showered him with it on Spotify, helping him become only the second artist to reach 2 billion Spotify streams.

Eminem, Spotify's most popular musician, was the first artist to hit the milestone this year.

Trailing Sheeran is David Guetta, who is the next closest artist to 2 billion streams. One stream equals one listen, which means Sheeran's songs have been played 2 billion times.

Sheeran was Spotify's most streamed artist in 2014, with 860 million listens in Spotify's 58 global markets. His sophomore album, x, also was 2014's top streamed album, with 430 million streams since debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 200 in June.

His most popular songs on Spotify are "Thinking Out Loud," "Don't," "I See Fire," "Sing" and "Photograph." The 24-year-old artist's "Thinking Out Loud" recently was named the top song on Spotify most likely to be added to sleep-themed playlists.
