'True Detective' motion poster gives a bird's-eye view of Season 2

Logic indicates that we probably don't want to know what the bird seen in the new motion poster below is nibbling on, and if we had to guess, it's probably not the leftover pieces from someone's bagel.

First, we all know people in Los Angeles don't eat bagels. Secondly, in the world of True Detective, discoveries of the gruesome kind are the fuel that powers the train. After a critically acclaimed freshman season, you can bet this show is full steam ahead as it heads into Season 2.

Halting the speculation for moment, here's what we know for sure: In the new, California-set season, a bizarre murder will cause three law-enforcement officers (Colin Farrell, Rachel McAdams and Taylor Kitsch) to cross paths and worlds with a career criminal, played by Vince Vaughn. A conspiracy involving L.A.'s transportation system begins to unravel and betrayals follow.

Beyond that, we're left to piece together clues until the show's June 21 return.
