BALTIMORE -- The funeral of Freddie Gray, the 25-year-old African-American man who died last week after sustaining injuries in police custody, was peaceful on Monday. But then violence hit Baltimore.

Though most protesters have been peaceful, rioters took to the streets after the funeral, throwing rocks, looting stores and setting cars ablaze. Police in riot gear responded with mace and warned they'd use tear gas. Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake called the agitators "thugs" and set a curfew for the rest of the week as the city braced for an unsettling night.
