LOS ANGELES -- Joni Mitchell is still in the hospital but "a full recovery is expected," according to a statement on her official website Tuesday, hours after a report surfaced that she had fallen into a coma.
From jonimitchell.com:
Contrary to rumors circulating on the Internet today, Joni is not in a coma. Joni is still in the hospital - but she comprehends, she’s alert, and she has her full senses. A full recovery is expected. The document obtained by a certain media outlet simply gives her longtime friend Leslie Morris the authority - in the absence of 24-hour doctor care - to make care decisions for Joni once she leaves the hospital. As we all know, Joni is a strong-willed woman and is nowhere near giving up the fight. Please continue to keep Joni in your thoughts. The decorated folk and jazz singer-songwriter was taken to an intensive care unit in Los Angeles on March 31 after she was found unconscious in her home. Her website at the time said she regained consciousness on the ambulance ride and was "awake and in good spirits."
Citing conservatorship documents filed by Morris, TMZ reported on Tuesday that Mitchell was "unconscious in a hospital, unable to respond to anyone, with no immediate prospects for getting better."
The eight-time Grammy Award winner started as a street musician in Canada before becoming a staple of the 1960s folk scene, moving on to jazz, pop and other forms before retiring from music in the mid-Aughts.
