LAS VEGAS -- "There's a new girl in town," Mariah Carey gleefully asserted Monday after making an elaborate entrance at the kickoff event for her musical residency.

Carey's 18-show stint at Caesars Palace's Colosseum begins May 6 and continues through July 26 and follows in the footsteps of the venue's former headliners: Celine Dion, Elton John Bette Midler, Cher, Rod Stewart and Shania Twain.

These residency launches have become spectacles in recent years, with memorable entrances from Britney Spears via helicopter in 2013 and Twain on a horse in 2012.
