It's an adventure years in the making.

Mashable is pleased to welcome our latest guest writer and tech reviewer, former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich.

You probably know Newt from his leadership in the U.S. House of Representatives in the 1990s or his presidential run in the Republican primaries in 2012, but, as we have found out, he's also an astute observer of the latest technology.

Newt grabbed headlines when he released a video in 2013 that pointed out the term "smartphone" was wholly inadequate to describe the microcomputers we all carry around with us today. More recently he's written insightful pieces on self-driving cars and virtual reality.

Now Newt is turning his attention to wearable technology. He'll be reviewing the Apple Watch for Mashable, lending his unique perspective as both a Washington insider and power user to his experience with today's hottest gadget.

Here we go! Excited to be reviewing the #AppleWatch for @mashable. More to come in the next few wks. Get ready pic.twitter.com/lzqVH4QmBs— Newt Gingrich (@newtgingrich) May 14, 2015
