It looks like we may get some of the answers to our lingering questions about the consumer version of the Oculus Rift sooner than expected.

Oculus VR, which was acquired by Facebook last year for $2 billion, sent out invitations to members of the media on Tuesday. The invites tout a "Step into the Rift" event in San Francisco on June 11; they come two weeks after the company announced the consumer-ready version of the virtual reality headset will finally begin shipping in early 2016.

Details about the event are scarce. The invitation didn't provide an agenda or even an exact location, but it's likely more details will be revealed about the highly anticipated next version of the headset.

Though an official launch date for the headset has not been released, Oculus said it would start accepting preorders for the headset later this year (orders would ship during the first quarter of 2015). The company also said it would show "hardware, software, input, and many of our unannounced made-for-VR games and experiences coming to the Rift."

The photo on the invitation looks different than the prototypes we've seen in the past. However, many details about the device -- including the price, setup and controllers -- remain unclear for the time being.

Curiously, the June event is slated for just a week before the E3 gaming conference in Los Angeles, where Oculus VR is also expected to host a press event.

Stay tuned for more updates as Mashable will be covering the event live from San Francisco on June 11.
