Cue the swelling patriotic music: Clint Eastwood has lined up his next directing project, this time a biopic of American hero pilot Captain Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger.

The film, backed by Warner Bros., will tell the story of Sullenberger, who made national headlines in 2009 when he landed a disabled jet on the Hudson River. All 155 passengers aboard survived.

“I am very glad my story is in the hands of gifted storyteller and filmmaker Clint Eastwood," Sullenberger said in a statement from the studio's announcement.

Screenwriter Todd Komarnicki is penning the script, which is based on the book Highest Duty: My Search for What Really Matters, an autobiography on Sullenberger's life, co-authored Jeffrey Zaslow.

Eastwood is pretty much a perfect fit to direct this story. Over the years, the director has found his niche helming chest-thumping American fare, from Flags of Our Fathers to Letters from Iwo Jima.

His last directorial effort was the 2014 biopic American Sniper, starring Bradley Cooper as Navy SEAL sniper Chris Kyle. The film was an enormous box office success, but also garnered heavy criticism over its depiction of Iraqis.
