Janet Jackson announces 'Unbreakable' world tour, her first in 4 years

Janet Jackson, who is already planning to release her first studio album in seven years this fall, will also embark on a world tour starting Aug. 31.

She unveiled the first leg of 36 tour stops for her "Unbreakable World Tour" on Monday. She will zigzag across the United States after beginning her shows in Canada.

The tour, produced by her new label Rhythm Nation and promoted by Live Nation, is Jackson's seventh concert tour and her first since 2011, when she played her second compilation album on the "Number Ones, Up Close and Personal World Tour."

Jackson also tweeted a way for fans to preorder her new album and exclusive tour T-shirt. The purchase will give them the chance to earn a code good to buy tour tickets early on Ticketmaster from June 15 to 19, before tickets become available widely on June 22.

Although no date has been set for the release of Jackson's new album, it will likely arrive before this tour starts. She and music giant BMG have confirmed that it will arrive this fall.

Her upcoming album, which she first teased last month in a video (see below), is her first release since 2008's Discipline. Jackson, 49, caught her big break in 1986 when her third album Control soared to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 200, and produced five Top 5 singles.

Over the course of three decades, she has unleashed many more songs that have topped the Hot 100 Singles chart, including "That's The Way Love Goes," "When I Think of You," "Miss You Much," "Escapade," "Black Cat," "Love Will Never Do," "Again," "Together Again," "Doesn't Really Matter" and "All For You."
