Justin Lin is preparing to boldly go where... several men have gone before.

J.J. Abrams has handed the keys to the rebooted Star Trek series to Lin, the beloved director of the Fast & Furious franchise. The third installment of Stark Trek is slated for next summer -- and now, just about a year before its premiere, Lin has revealed both the first image from the film and its title via Twitter.

As Lin writes in the tweet, Kirk and Spock's next voyage will be called Star Trek Beyond -- presumably with no hyphen, a la Star Trek Into Darkness. The title implies that the franchise's next entry may focus more on exploration rather than character origin stories (like the first Abrams Star Trek) or trying to convince us that Benedict Cumberbatch wasn't playing Khan (like Into Darkness, or at least its marketing efforts).

The "LLAP" hashtag -- "live long and prosper," natch -- is also a nice touch that nods toward original Trek star Leonard Nimoy, who died in February.

Star Trek 3 screenwriter and costar Simon Pegg previously kinda-sorta-accidentally revealed that the film would be called Star Trek Beyond in a blog post published in May.
