Well, that's enough to make you lose your appetite.

Ever since NBC canceled Hannibal last month, fans have held out hope that the beautifully grotesque series might be picked up by another network or streaming site. Creator Bryan Fuller himself fed the rumors in his initial statement about the cancelation, dropping this tasty tidbit: "Hannibal is finishing his last course at NBC’s table this summer, but a hungry cannibal can always dine again."

He won't, however, be dining at the tables of Amazon or Netflix. Fuller broke the discouraging news Monday evening:

@MikeBarbre I'M SORRY TO REPORT @amazon AND @netflix HAVE PASSED ON #HANNIBAL S4 BUT WE'RE STILL INVESTIGATING POSSIBILITIES— Bryan Fuller (@BryanFuller) July 6, 2015

Netflix's decision not to pick up the show shouldn't come as a shock, considering that the exclusive rights to stream Hannibal's first three seasons belong to another streaming giant: Amazon.

It's a bit more disheartening to see Amazon also decline to produce a fourth season of a series it's already airing -- although as Slashfilm points out, the situation is complicated by the fact that the series was produced by the French studio Gaumont rather than NBC, and because the options on stars Mads Mikkelsen and Hugh Dancy's contracts have expired.
