Your 4 p.m. hash brown dreams may be coming.

A memo sent to U.S. franchisees and staff stated that all-day breakfast may be rolled out as early as October, according to The Wall Street Journal, which obtained a copy of the memo.

Though McDonald's has resisted serving late for years (it's available until 10:30 a.m. on weekdays and 11 a.m. on weekends), siting operational challenges, the company has been testing all-day breakfast in the U.S. since early 2015, and is set to become the norm in other places, like Australia.

The memo, distributed by a franchisee and member of a task force devoted to analyzing all-day breakfast, LeAnn Richards of Tucson, Arizona, states that owners should be prepared for a possible nationwide rollout.

If all-day breakfast comes to fruition, it won't be without hurdles. New equipment must be ordered and it will have to pass votes by franchisees. Then, of course, there's the all-important question of biscuits versus muffins for breakfast sandwiches (biscuits FTW).

The first step to the reality of an all-day breakfast at McDonald's is a vote among franchisee leaders on Aug. 14. From there, it may just be a hop, skip and a jump to late afternoon brunches with hotcakes and hash browns.

McDonald's has not confirmed this news. A representative told Mashable that while serving all-day breakfast is "likely the No. 1 request" it hears from customers, the company is still testing that out.
