Mashable presents your first look at Breakthrough, a six-part National Geographic Channel series about cutting-edge science that will change our lives in the very near future and beyond.

Produced by Ron Howard and Brian Grazer's Imagine Entertainment and Asylum Entertainment, each episode is directed by a different Hollywood heavyweight: Angela Bassett ("Water Apocalypse"), Peter Berg ("Fighting Pandemics"), Paul Giamatti ("More Than Human"), Akiva Goldsman ("Energy From the Edge"), Ron Howard ("The Age of Aging") and Brett Ratner ("The Brain").
