It’s safe to say that Donald Trump and Fox News host Megyn Kelly had slightly different experiences at Thursday’s first Republican debate.
Kelly, one of the three Fox News debate moderators, posed several aggressive questions to Trump over the course of the night, including one particularly pointed exchange over Trump’s unflattering descriptions of women he had worked with.
He attacked her questions -- and then turned to intimidation.
"Honestly Megyn, if you don’t like it, I’m sorry," he said. "I’ve been very nice to you although I could probably maybe not be based on the way you have treated me."
Trump's apparent displeasure with Kelly's style didn't end when the debate did, though. He kept it up in a late-night/early morning stream of tweets that meandered from patting his own back to hating on Kelly to slamming Fox veteran pollster Frank Luntz. (For her part, Kelly has not yet responded to any of Trump's tweets.)
First, Trump was self-congratulatory:
Wow! What a great honor from @DRUDGE_REPORT http://t.co/fokcASBVuN— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) August 7, 2015
Things got a bit more pointed. First target? Luntz.
.@FrankLuntz is a low class slob who came to my office looking for consulting work and I had zero interest. Now he picks anti-Trump panels!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) August 7, 2015
.@FrankLuntz I won every poll of the debate tonight by massive margins @DRUDGE_REPORT & @TIME so where did you find that dumb panel.— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) August 7, 2015
Then he moved on to Kelly. Trump had his own words for her, but also retweeted several misogynistic quips, including one calling Kelly a "bimbo."
"@italy2320: @Reid2962 @FoxNews @megynkelly Tell me what I can do to help you. She really has made me want to never watch fox again"— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) August 7, 2015
Wow, @megynkelly really bombed tonight. People are going wild on twitter! Funny to watch.— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) August 7, 2015
As it happened, Trump wasn't exactly a fan of the other Fox moderators, either.
I really enjoyed the debate tonight even though the @FoxNews trio, especially @megynkelly, was not very good or professional!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) August 7, 2015
You mad, Donald?
