After one key arrest over the weekend, Thai police are on the hunt for a woman and a man they believe are behind the recent Bangkok bombings at the Erawan shrine and Sathon pier.
The police has released a photo of a 26-year-old woman named Wanna Suansan, and a sketch of an unnamed man. Both of them were living in an apartment that was raided on Saturday night.
The Bangkok Post reports that the woman's rented apartment held items such as electrical wiring, wristwatches, fertiliser and a radio-controlled toy vehicle. These items can be used to make explosives, police said.
The police were led to the apartment by another suspect they picked up on Saturday, a foreigner police believe is part of a network of foreign nationals behind the bombings.
When they raided his apartment, they found "large quantities of bomb-making materials, including 10 detonator cords," said assistant police chief Prawut Thawornsiri. There were also more than 200 fake passports in the room.
The police have detained the suspect, but so far have failed to wrest a confession out of him.
These arrests are a fresh new lead on the hunt for the bombers who killed 20 in the attack at the Erawan shrine. Police had previously admitted that the trail for their chief suspect had gone cold.
