Runway beauty looks usually involve layers of NARS foundation and entire palettes of MAC eye shadow. This wasn’t the case at Givenchy’s Spring 2016 show on Friday.

Legendary makeup artist Pat McGrath implemented materials more often used as embellishments on clothing or upholstery, rather than skin. Commissioned by the brand's designer Riccardo Tisci to create a look that captured "a softness, but also a strangeness,” McGrath's final work of art did just that.

After several hours of using a professional adhesive to carefully apply heavy jewels, beading and delicate fabric directly to model's faces, the end result was nothing short of enchanting. While Tisci has swapped stage makeup for face jewels before, the masked models were an alluring surprise for his first New York show.
