Get ready for some more Microsoft Windows 10 hardware -- and, perhaps, a look at the toughest competitor to the upcoming Apple iPad Pro, Smart Keyboard and Pencil.

On Monday morning, Microsoft sent out invites to a special event in New York City on Oct. 6. A company representative told Mashable the event will represent "a continuation of the Windows 10 journey we've been on" and, more importantly, "the next stage of Windows 10 devices."

The invite says, simply, "We have some exciting news to share about Windows 10 devices." The event kicks off at 10 a.m. ET.

It's likely Microsoft will finally unveil the eagerly anticipated Surface Pro 4 tablet hybrid. The current Surface Pro devices have been the highlight reel during recent earnings reports. Some believe Apple's 12.9-inch iPad Pro with optional keyboard and Bluetooth pen are a direct response to Microsoft's business workhorse.

There are other possibilities. The company could announce a ship date for HoloLens, a Windows 10 augmented-reality headset that the company has been teasing for months.

Microsoft is also supposed to release Windows 10 Mobile for phones sometime next month. We may finally see a new Nokia flagship device running the new mobile OS.

Whatever Microsoft does unveil next month, Team Mashable will be there to give you the play-by-play.
