It's good to have some basic smarts when you're stuck in a post-apocalyptic wasteland. Whether you're scrounging for food or shooting for your life, a sharp mind is essential for surviving each day.

The latest look at Fallout 4's series of instructional cartoons on the game's "S.P.E.C.I.A.L." stats focuses on "P": Perception. Don't confuse it with intelligence; this stat isn't a reflection of your book smarts. It's more a measure of how tuned into the world you are.

In gameplay terms, Perception governs how well you can target enemy body parts using the game's VATS system. It also dictates your skillfulness when it comes to swiping things that don't belong to you, or planting a live grenade in some poor, unsuspecting enemy's pocket (don't worry, he probably deserved it).
