This Lexus IS was built entirely out of cardboard

And you thought the seats in your car were uncomfortable. Imagine if they were made from vertically sandwiched corrugated cardboard.

On Monday, Lexus unveiled a full-size model replica of its IS compact sports sedan, created from 1,700 10-mm pieces of laser-cut cardboard. Lexus says the project was inspired by the company's takumi craftspeople who painstakingly -- and precisely -- assemble the brand's cars.

The automaker also says the model was inspired by origami. Other than being made out of paper products, we're not quite sure we make the logical leap with Lexus on that one.

Fear of paper cuts aside, I am actually kind of keen on driving the thing. And drive it I could. The bottom of the car is a steel frame fitted with an electric motor powered by some Lexus lead-acid batteries, which propel the car down the lane ... albeit very slowly on its cardboard wheels.
