How do you compete with the iPhone? Throw a fedora on it.

Bryan Roper, Microsoft's executive demo lead, came on stage to debut... something during the company's Surface Pro 4 event on Tuesday.

What the "something" was doesn't really matter, though, because Roper was wearing a fedora. A denim fedora. A sideways denim fedora. In 2015.

Roper quickly became the breakout star of the event -- almost overshadowing the HoloLens for developers and its first laptop -- because, to recap, he was wearing a fedora.

It seems Roper didn't don the hat just for Tuesday's event. Photos on his LinkedIn page and his Microsoft employee page are proof that this is his year-round look.

Before Roper worked at Microsoft, he was a blues musician in a cruise ship piano lounge. Perhaps the hat is a memento from his days overseas tickling the ivories.

Good to know he hasn't let the corporate world dull that sparkle.

He is not the hero we deserve, but the hero the Internet needs right now.
