Justin Bieber just got a tattoo on some prime heartthrob real estate: his abs.

It reads "purpose" in a similar script to his "forgive" tattoo right near the old ink. So, Justin what do you mean? Is this a way of distancing yourself from your existentialist public image?

It could be a comment on the belly button itself. Does it serve a purpose on the body of a human adult? Justin Bieber is one of those now.

Maybe it means that the purpose of belly buttons is to distinguish us from the aliens like Kyle XY and Taylor Swift, before she got a belly button surgically implanted so she could appear human.

Or perhaps it is a tribute to umbilical cords, and, by extension, his mother and all women. It's probably a feminist tattoo.

You can only see that tattoo if the Biebs is shirtless, so maybe it reflects his stance on shirts, not belly buttons. Shirts have no purpose.

Is it about skateboarding? Bieber really likes skateboarding.

Maybe the umbilical cord links it to him to Jesus, who gives him life. Bieber has been open about how his Christianity has been his salvation, keeping him focused through a turbulent time. He already has several tattoos related to this faith.

It could be a simple reference to his purpose in the world: creating beautiful music.

In all likelihood, it's actually the name of his currently untitled album dropping November 13.

He also has a tattoo that many believe represents Selena Gomez as an angel.
