Halloween can be both magical and chill.

Every year it's the same old song and dance. You spend days, weeks or even months fretting and fussing about the perfect costume, only to spend Halloween at a party feeling uncomfortable, sweaty and possibly feeling even a little over (or under) dressed.

This year, take the time to de-stress and actually enjoy Halloween with a costume that will not only bring a smile to everyone's face but will also make you feel like a legitimate magical creature all night long -- all while feeling like you're in your pajamas. It doesn't get any better than that.

And, if you get any water on you while you're bobbing for apples, it's no big deal.

Materials:

Hoodie

Small piece of poster board (for horn)

Gold fabric, leather or felt (for horn)

Lots of assorted colored felt or fabric (for mane and tail)

1-2 pieces of white or matching color felt (for ears)

1-2 pieces of pink or peach felt (for ears)

Glue gun and glue

Scissors

Glitter glue (optional)

The Ears

Step One:

Take a sheet of your "ear felt" a fold it in half. We used white because we sadly couldn't find a nice seafoam green like our hoodie, but feel free to use a matching color so your unicorn is more uniform, so to speak. Cut out two ears from your sheet.

Use this same technique on a sheet of pink or peach colored felt, only cutting a slightly smaller shape. This will be the inside of your ear.

Step Two:

Glue around the inside edge of your pink felt and press it firmly on the center of your ear.

You can either leave your ears flat, or you can use this one last trick to add a little depth to your costume. First, pinch the middle of your ear. Once you know where your fold will go, add a dab of glue and fold again and hold until the glue dries.

Now that your ears are a little more three dimensional, you can set them aside until you're ready for finishing touches.

The Horn

First, cut a flattened cone shape out of poster board. You can find templates online if you don't trust yourself to do it freehand.

Once you've cut it out, roll it in your hands until you have a cone shape and secure it with tape. You can cut it down to size if needed.

Using your cone as a guide, cut a triangle shape out of felt (or other material you're using for your unicorn horn). Roll your cone along the material and cut just beyond the seam.

Now that you have a flat cone cut from your material, squeeze some glue onto one inner edge of the fabric and press onto your cone.

Roll your fabric around your cone and secure the other end by squeezing glue on the other edge, creating a neat seam. Place your horn to the side and save it until you're ready for finishing touches.

The Mane

Step One:

Since this is a no-sew project, prep your hood by making pairs of small cuts, parallel to the seam, starting at the very top of the head and going down to the shoulder seam. Each cut should be about half an inch wide and about a quarter inch between each pair.

Step Two:

Cut strips of different colored felt, about 1-2 inches wide. Amounts may vary depending on how many colors you're using. Since we were using eight colors, we cut one sheet per color and we had plenty left over.

Pull a strip through two holes, passing under the seam of the hood.

Tie a simple knot, leaving one side shorter, if you wish. For a lush mane, tie two strips of felt per hole.

Tie your mane until you've reached the bottom of the hood.

The Tail

Cut even more strips of felt, about 1 inch wide. Since this is for the tail, cut your sheets of felt length-wise.

To create a tail, apply a dab of glue to the top of a strip of felt and press another strip on top of it. Keep layering strips on top of other strips until you have a nice, lush tassle.

Step Three:

Cut a hole at the bottom of your hoodie, directly in the center. Size may vary depending on how thick your tail is.

Push your tail through the hole.

Secure your tail by applying a dab of glue on the side of the tail that will be directly pressed against the hoodie fabric.

For good measure, glue a small strip of felt where your tail attaches to your hoodie.

Finishing Touches

Time to attach the ears! Simply apply a line of glue at the bottom of each ear and press to the crown of the hoodie.

Now it's time for the main event: the horn. Apply a generous amount of glue to the base of the horn.

Press firmly to the top of the crown of the hood. Hold until the glue is dry (about 30 seconds).

For good measure, apply a thin ring of glue to the outside base of the horn.
