For most of us, decorating for Halloween involves nothing more than a jack-o'-lantern or two, and maybe — if we’re feeling wild — a wind puppet. Not so for artist Christine McConnell, who decided to head to her parents house this Halloween and do a little “renovation.”

While McConnell didn’t really go for the standard smoke and cardboard pop-ups, the results are bone-chilling. McConnell decided to paint the house with huge eyes because, as she told Mashable by email, “I'm just a huge fan of eyes, most of my baking has an eye or two in there. It makes everything seem more real to me when it's looking back at you.” To make the house, McConnell used insulation foam core “because it's so inexpensive, lightweight and easy to cut.” The results are clean, colorful, and totally disturbing (in a good way).

Since making the house, McConnell’s house has attracted a huge amount of attention, both in her neighborhood and on the web. “Tons of people from the neighborhood have come to take pictures, kids with their parents, older folks who have known me since I was little growing up there,” McConnell told Mashable.  Just imagine: Haunted House Hunters Renovation.

McConnell currently has a huge Instagram following (189,000 and counting) for her work, which includes this house, as well as some of her awesome gothic baking. Think alien cakes. Wafflecones from scratch. Headless women in white bras eating frosted cakes. You know, pretty standard stuff.
