If they're kidding us, it's going to be devastating.

On Tuesday night, Nike's Twitter account seemed to suggest the company would be doing something special to celebrate Back to the Future day on Wednesday, Oct. 21, pinging the film's star, Michael J. Fox.

The Internet's immediate conclusion: It would be bringing out a pair of the light-up Nike sneakers Marty McFly dons in the cult film, complete with automatic laces.

Nike did not immediately return request for comment.

The possibility that this slice of Back to the Future: Part II could become reality has been floated for years now. In 2009, Nike filed a patent for a self-lacing system, and the company has previously offered a limited edition release of a replica shoe, the Nike MAG, just without the Power Laces.

Back in January, Nike's legendary designer, Tinker Hatfield, confirmed the company was working on getting a Back to the Future shoe out in 2015. You can only imagine they were aiming for Oct. 21, 2015, the date Marty McFly and Doc travel forward in the DeLorean time machine.

If the rumors are true, prepare for these things to hit insane prices on eBay immediately.
