After Paris attacks, people stand up for Muslims with #TerrorismHasNoReligion

In the wake of the deadly attacks in Paris on Friday night, new hashtags meant to defend Muslims are trending online.

On Saturday morning, people began tweeting with the hashtag #TerrorismHasNoReligion in response to those blaming Muslims for the attacks in which at least 129 people were killed and more than 300 people injured. The hashtag #MuslimsAreNotTerrorist is also trending worldwide on Twitter.

Muslims and non-Muslims alike called for avoiding the grouping together of extremist groups such as ISIS with the Muslim community as a whole.

Mourners in Paris were also facing off against anti-Islam protestors. In the French town of Lille, those gathered for a vigil held Saturday morning drove a group of anti-Islam protesters away from the scene.

President François Hollande on Friday declared a state of emergency after the attacks, ordering tightened borders and increased military presence on the ground in Paris.

The Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the attacks which Hollande have described as "an act of war."
