One week in, and Adele's 25 keeps breaking records.
On Sunday, Billboard reported the singer's third album sold 3.38 million copies in the U.S., a record for single-week sales according to Nielsen Music.
It's the only album to sell more than 3 million copies since Nielsen started tracking point-of-sale music purchases in 1991 -- when people actually still bought records. It only took three days for Adele's new album to leap past *NSYNC's No Strings Attached, which held the record for single-week sales since 2001 with 2.42 million sold.
Need more records? No problem. Adele's 25 -- which is not available on streaming services -- is already the best selling album of the year, far surpassing 1.8 million copies sold by Taylor Swift's 1989. It also dethroned Oasis' Be Here Now, breaking the UK record for first week album sales with 737,000 copies sold.
25 will appear at the top of the Billboard 200 albums chart Dec. 12. Adele's previous album, 21 also hit number one when it came out, staying there for 24 non-consecutive weeks; another record for the UK singer. We'll see if the new album can top that as well.
