Once Princess Leia, always Princess Leia -- as long as you keep the weight off.

In an interview with Good Housekeeping, Carrie Fisher says she was asked to lose weight in order to reprise her iconic role in the upcoming Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

"They don’t want to hire all of me -- only about three-quarters!" she tells the magazine. "Nothing changes, it’s an appearance-driven thing."

It was a case of history repeating itself. Fisher was hired by George Lucas for the original Star Wars in 1977 on the condition that she lose 10 pounds.

The actress lamented the fact that she works in an industry where "weight and appearance" are the only things that matter.

"That is so messed up," she says. "They might as well say get younger, because that’s how easy it is."

Through diet and exercise, she ended up losing more than 35 pounds for the film.

"I did it the same way everybody has to -– don’t eat and exercise more! There is no other way to do it," she says.

However, Fisher isn't comfortable that her new weight makes her "feel good" about herself. "It's not who I am," she added.

"We treat beauty like an accomplishment and that is insane," she said. "Everyone in LA says, 'Oh you look good,' and you listen for them to say you’ve lost weight. It’s never 'How are you?' or 'You seem happy!'"
