LONDON -- A 29-year-old man has appeared in court Monday morning charged with the attempted murder of a 56-year-old man in a London tube station on Saturday night.

Muhaydin Mire from East London, who was arrested following a knife attack at Leytonstone Underground Station, was remanded in custody at Westminster Magistrates' Court.

One man suffered serious knife injuries and was in hospital in a stable condition. Another man received minor injuries, while a woman was threatened but not hurt in what police described as a 'terrorist incident'.

Video shot by witnesses at the scene showed a pool of blood on the station's floor as the suspect was seen lunging at several police officers who tried to subdue him. He was then pinned down after Taser stun gun was used.

British Transport Police said they were deploying more uniformed and plain-clothed officers to the London transport network following the attack.

“We ask the public to remain calm and carry on using public transport as normal," Assistant Chief Constable Mark Newton of British Transport Police said in a statement Sunday.

UPDATED 12:00 p.m. GMT to reflect court appearance.
