Members of Eagles of Death Metal made an emotional return to the Bataclan for the first time since the night of the Paris attacks.

The band members broke down in tears on Tuesday as they laid flowers at the ever-growing makeshift memorial outside the venue where they were performing when attackers stormed in and killed 89 people.

The band's name is displayed on the Bataclan's marquee, just as it had been on the night of Nov. 13.

Members of the band rifled through the messages and tribute to victims that have amassed outside the venue since that night. Singer Jessie Hughes and drummer Julian Dorio were joined by other members of the band and crew as a light rain fell.

Eagles of Death Metal were halfway through a performance when gunmen stormed the venue, firing indiscriminately into the crowd. They held dozens of concert-goers hostage in an hours-long standoff with police before detonating suicide vests. The band members all managed to escape. Following the attacks, they announced that they would be putting future tours on hold.

Guys... I don't know what to say. We're more than lucky... "Happy" to see you @fatherbadass @freebassist666 @coolranchdorio beside me and my friends outside. I didn't see @itookthisphoto or @mattmcjunkins taking the cab with you guys, hope all your crew is safe! That's an horror.. Thinking about those who passed away and who were having such a love time & happiness with all of us just a minute before... #lebataclan #eodm @eodmofficial #paris A photo posted by ♠ Red Lemons (Paris, France) ⚡ (@redlemonsband) on Nov 13, 2015 at 6:46pm PST

In an interview with Vice, Hughes said he hoped Eagles of Death Metal will be the first band to play at the Bataclan when it reopens. It's still unclear if and when that will happen.

"I want to be the first band to play in the Bataclan when it opens up," said Hughes. "Because I was there when it went silent for a minute."

On Monday night, the band joined U2 in a surprise appearance in a different Paris venue. The performance was their first time on stage since Nov. 13.

During the U2 concert, which will air later on HBO, lead singer Bono welcomed the band to the stage, introducing them as a group "whose lives will forever be a part of the city of Paris."

"They were robbed of their stage three weeks ago, and we would like to offer them ours tonight," he added.

The two bands then played the Patti Smith song "People Have the Power."

Hughes told U2 and the crowd: "We love you too, so much for giving us this opportunity. I look around and what do I see, nos amis, our friends. I f---ing love you guys so hard, and I will never stop rocking and rolling."
