Fact of TV life: Arrow is not a show that does finales in a small way.

As the show's fans know well, there's always an event, a cliffhanger, a major bombshell, and, in special cases, a death that sends fans into a spiral of emotions.

Wednesday's winter finale was no exception.

Of course, fans knew something big was coming. After all, the season began with a flashforward to Oliver visiting a grave but that episode didn't reveal the deceased person's identity. Arrow writers had fun keeping fans guessing, and during Wednesday's episode they even had a little fun with it. At one point, Thea, Diggle and Felicity -- the characters fans widely believed to be the frontrunners in the Arrow Death Pool -- even found themselves trapped in a chamber quickly filling with deadly gas.

They were broken out.

After the action, it seemed for a second like the episode would end on a happy note. Sure, Damien Darhk was in the wind but the group had all walked away safe. There was even an engagement.

Yes, Oliver finally popped the question to Felicity -- and it was lovely.

Then things changed.

To be honest, the second the happy couple got into a limo, everyone knew something horrible was going to happen -- and it did.

Before fans could even write a congratulatory Tweet to their beloved "Olicity," the couple's limo was surrounded by gunmen -- goons sent by Darhk.

Oliver valiantly attempted to shield his fiancée and then took charge and snuck into the driver's seat (even pushing aside their driver's body to do so) and drove them the heck out of there.

Once away from danger, he stopped the car to check on Felicity, who he learns had been shot.

Does the grave belong to Felicity? Or is this a red herring? TBD.

Until then, let's just say Arrow fans have been pretty vocal about their feelings.

All that said, of course, let's try to see the bright side
