In 2015, numerous selfie-related deaths made the headlines in India -- from three students killed by an incoming train that they were posing in front of, to seven men who drowned after capsizing a boat while taking photographs on one side. This year isn't likely to be different, with three people dying while taking selfies in two separate incidents in India over the last few days.
In Mumbai, two people lost their lives on Saturday morning when three college students Tarannum Ansari, Anjum Khan and Masturi Khan, fell into the waters of the Arabian Sea. The three friends were taking a selfie at the boulders lining the rocky beach along the Bandra Fort.
One of the onlookers Ramesh Walunj jumped into the water and helped two of the three girls to safety. However, while he was rescuing Ansari, a large tide swept both of them away.
On Saturday, 20-year-old Abhishek Gupta slippped and fell off the top of the Bhimgarh Fort in the Reasi district in north India's Jammu region. Gupta had visited the hilltop fort with his friends, but climbed to the top alone and sustained fatal head injuries from the fall.
Selfie addicts in India may consider taking a few safety tips from the guidelines on dangerous selfies, issued by the Russian government last year.
