It's the Twitter beef you didn't know you wanted.

On Jan. 27, 2016, Kanye Omari West became the top trending topic on Twitter after going on a spree against rapper Wiz Khalifa. But why? What caused the beef? Where did it all start? Why do they call it "beef" anyway?

We got you.

Here's a quick explainer of the tweetstorm that will live in infamy.

How it all began

Two words: Amber Rose.

The former stripper turned model and video vixen dated West from 2008 to 2010, a turbulent, high-profile relationship that made waves across the blogosphere. Rose was there when Kanye hopped onstage at the VMAs in 2009. They took these pictures together. West wrote a lot of songs about her.

They broke up later, because West couldn't "be faithful," and was cheating on her with "homewrecker" Kim Kardashian, Rose told the New York Post in 2012.

About a year later, she started dating Wiz Khalifa, a rapper already in the mainstream thanks to his hit song "Black and Yellow." The pair got married in 2013, and had a child, Sebastian Taylor Thomaz, soon after.

West ended up marrying Kim Kardashian in 2014. All's well that ends well, right?

Well ... for some godforsaken reason, West invokes Rose a lot, despite being a happily married husband and father of two. He's slut-shamed her and said last year that he had to take "30 showers" after dating her.

For her part, Rose doesn't have any nice things to say about West, and isn't a fan of the Kardashian klan anyway, particularly because of Kim, but also because Kylie Jenner was (/is? Who knows) dating Tyga, a rapper. He was previously engaged to Rose's good friend Blac Chyna, with whom he has a child.

It's the family feud that never ends. Really, all you have to know is once Amber and Kanye broke up, they NEVER LIKED EACH OTHER AGAIN.

Meanwhile, Khalifa and Rose ended up filing for divorce in 2014.

Khalifa has continued his career as a pretty successful rapper, while Rose has worked on expanding her empire, writing a book (How to Be a Bad Bitch) and organizing a SlutWalk in Los Angeles.

#TeamAmber. #TeamSebastian.

Swish vs. Waves vs. Wiz

Now that you have the dramatic backdrop, let's fast forward this beef to Tuesday. West, after much deliberation, decided to change his forthcoming album title from the already-perfect Swish to the emoji-ready Waves. Okay, fine, innocuous enough, right?

You're absolutely wrong, fam.

Khalifa decided to unleash his #TwitterFingers and subtweet the new title, essentially claiming that West was co-opting a movement by artist Max B.

Max B is a Harlem rapper who basically popularized "wavy" as a slang term, and associated it with his music. His last three mixtapes were called Return of the Wave, Toothy Wavy and A Wave Called Yes. He's also been in prison since 2009, serving a 75-year sentence for plotting armed robbery and kidnapping, which led to the death of David Taylor, which is really neither here nor there but kind of an important thing to know about a person.

Anyway, Khalifa really didn't like the idea that West might have been biting Max B.'s sound or style, so he continued to tweet about it.

He's the reason I sing on all my songs. That's the wave. If theres nothing wit that sound ITS NOT WAVY.— KOE (@wizkhalifa) January 27, 2016

Just so you know what true waves are. https://t.co/Mot3ab1Kuu— KOE (@wizkhalifa) January 27, 2016

West later tweeted about it (though he didn't directly respond to Wiz).

All respect to Andre Harrel and Max B #Waves— KANYE WEST (@kanyewest) January 27, 2016

And then Wiz responded back to Kanye again.

Yea aight. https://t.co/z1syUIGo4G— KOE (@wizkhalifa) January 27, 2016

Then all was quiet on the Twitter front.

Until Wiz tweeted this.

Hit this kk and become yourself.— KOE (@wizkhalifa) January 27, 2016

He was apparently referring to his own strain of marijuana, Khalifa Kush.

But Kanye West didn't know that.

To Kanye West, there is only one true KK.

On Wednesday, West promptly lost all couth and began tweeting incessantly about Wiz.

It didn't end there.

There's just so much to break down. 1) He thinks Wiz stole his sound from rapper Kid Cudi, a former collaborator and GOOD Music (Kanye's label) artist. Which, eh, might be a plausible thing to say? In a 2014 interview, Khalifa himself said he looks up to Cudi.

"He was able to do what I’m doing now before I was able to do it," Khalifa said. "I looked at his path, his performances."

And 2) Kanye really respects Wiz's pants game. So much that he sent a picture of Wiz's pants to his stylists.

But then it was back to bashing him.

HE IS THE REASON WE CAN WEAR TIGHT PANTS. There's more where that came from, which you can see in full here.

But seriously, among his tweets aimed at Wiz, he took some pretty misogynistic shots at Amber, belittling her, calling her a "stripper" and saying she trapped him by having his child ("this girl got you for 18 years").

Khalifa responded, but in a pretty casual way, clearing up the "KK" confusion.

KK is weed fool. Reason's why your not wavy. Go bacc to Swish. https://t.co/7OT4xiQa5V— KOE (@wizkhalifa) January 27, 2016

He's too busy rolling joints to listen to Waves anyway.

I been smashed the idea of that album even existing. I got joints to roll @kanyewest— KOE (@wizkhalifa) January 27, 2016

He has yet to respond to the jabs at Rose.

Apparently something convinced West to tone it down. Perhaps he consulted the holy saint in his life. He decided to delete most of his tweets, saying that he just loves everyone, wants world peace and that Waves is actually a gospel album.

What’s sad is I love Wiz and I love all all my brothers and all people— KANYE WEST (@kanyewest) January 27, 2016

This album is actually a Gospel album— KANYE WEST (@kanyewest) January 27, 2016

Ima take these down cause it’s all about positive energy blessings blessings positive energy blessings— KANYE WEST (@kanyewest) January 27, 2016

It's all over.

UNTIL AMBER DECIDES TO JOIN THE PARTY AND EMERGE THE TRUE WINNER.
