ABC is changing things up at the top with the appointment of a new president.

The network announced Wednesday that Channing Dungey, ABC's former executive vice president of drama development, would be replacing Paul Lee, who is stepping down from the post he's held since 2010 -- reportedly after being forced out.

Dungey, who has been with ABC Studios since 2004, was instrumental in the development and success of Scandal, How to Get Away With Murder, freshman hit Quantico and Once Upon a Time (a show on which her sister, actress Merrin Dungey, has appeared). Dungey will be the first African American person to lead a broadcast network in the U.S.

“Channing is a gifted leader and a proven magnet for top creative talent, with an impressive record of developing compelling, breakthrough programming that resonates with viewers," ABC chairman Ben Sherwood said in a release. "We thank Paul for his many accomplishments at ABC and his devotion to the ABC brand, and we wish him continued success in the future.”

Ms. Dungey added: “I’m thrilled and humbled that Ben has entrusted me with this tremendous opportunity. And I am truly grateful to Paul for being a valued mentor and friend. I’ve had the great honor of working alongside the talented team at ABC for many years and look forward to starting this exciting new chapter with them.”
