We tried out a flexible LCD bracelet, and it was the geekiest thing ever
BARCELONA -- You might be able to buy a smartphone with a slightly curvy screen -- both LG and Samsung have one -- but now a UK company called FlexEnable is working to deliver screens that are much more curvy, and fully flexible.
The company's booth at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, hidden in a remote corner of the huge Fira venue, looks like the desk of a genius inventor. Screen parts, chips, and various partly assembled gizmos did not give us hope we'd see anything close to a finished product here, but a curvy LCD display, shaped like a bracelet, piqued our interest.

A company rep told us the company doesn't plan to launch an actual product; instead, it's highlighting the technology, which it plans to license to screen manufacturers.
Surprisingly, the screen isn't an OLED panel, which are inherently flexible. Instead, the 4.7-inch display on the bracelet is very similar to a regular LCD, but it's made of plastic, which is how it can withstand bending. Use cases are many: from wearables to odd shaped smartphones to car displays that conform to the curvy car interiors.
It's also one step closer to fulfilling our dream of one day having a full-body LCD suit. Baby steps, folks.
