The iPhone isn't Apple's only gadget getting a reduced-size makeover.

Apple unveiled a new 9.7-inch iPad Pro at its press event in Cupertino Monday. The tablet has many of the same specs as its 12.9-inch counterpart, including a new Smart Keyboard and Apple Pencil accessories.

The tablet will start at $599 for the 32 GB version. The tablet will also be available in 128 GB ($749) and 256 GB ($899) varieties. The new iPad Pro also marks the first time Apple's tablet will be available in rose gold.

It has a 9.7-inch Retina display and weighs less than one pound. The device sports a new True Tone display that is 40% less reflective than the iPad Air 2 and is brighter, with improved color saturation.

The new True Tone display uses ambient light sensors to automatically adapt the color of the display to the surrounding lighting. Apple says this makes the display feel more natural and more similar to the experience of looking at a sheet of paper. The tablet will support Apple's new Night Shift mode, which is part of the iOS 9.3 update rolling out Monday.

While the smaller iPad Pro has the same A9X chip as the larger iPad Pro unveiled last year, the smaller version is getting a new 12-megapixel iSIght camera that is 4K-ready. The 5-megapixel front-facing camera comes with the Retina Flash -- first introduced with the iPhone 6S last year -- which Apple says will make for better selfies.

It also has an improved audio system with four speakers that Apple says are twice as loud as those on the iPad Air 2.

The new iPad will start shipping March 31 and pre-orders will open March 24.
