We already know that the Tesla Model S, especially in its most powerful, 100D iteration, can get ludicrously fast.

But it doesn't stop there. A modified version of the fastest Model S, created for the Electric GT Championship, is even faster, reaching 0-100kmh (0-62mph) in an insane 2.1 seconds.

The number, which according to MotorAuthority has been officially confirmed by Electric GT, means the car speeds up from 0-60mph in about 2 seconds. No production cars come close to being that fast; for comparison, the fastest "regular" Model S speeds up to 60mph in 2.4 seconds.

Amazingly, it didn't take a dramatic overhaul to make the Model S go this fast. According to Electric GT, 500 kilograms were shed off the car, brakes and suspension were upgraded, motor was pushed to 778 horsepower and slick, racing tires were fit to the car.

The newest version of the car was officially unveiled last week, during the Autosport International’s Live Action Arena in Birmingham, UK.

The Electric GT Championship will take place in 2017, with 10 teams and 20 drivers, all of which will drive the exact same Model S on race tracks in Europe and the Americas.
