Some of the most beautiful and iconic imagery of all time has come from sports photography. Timing, knowledge, skill and luck all play large parts in a photographer being able to capture an important moment in any sport. Football is one of the hardest sports to shoot as the game is played in a huge area (as opposed to a court or rink) and has so much action to follow.

But it's 2015, and photographer Mike Sternoff has seen the future. He went to last Sunday's NFC Championship game between the Green Bay Packers and Seattle Seahawks with a Lytro Illum in tow. The Lytro is able to capture a picture on multiple focal planes all in one instant. This means you, the viewer, get to choose what is in and out of focus after the image is taken.

Sternoff was right in the thick of it as the Seahawks beat the Packers in overtime, 28-22, and now you can see the action in the Lytro images below. Click or tap on different parts of the images to interact with them.
