Die-hard Star Trek fans, rejoice: Although the upcoming Star Trek movie, 'Star Trek Into Darkness,' will not be hitting theaters until May 2013, Paramount Pictures will release the first 9 minutes of the movie in 3D IMAX theaters on December 14.

This first look into the sequel to the 2009's 'Star Trek' will be available in approximately 500 IMAX cinemas accross the U.S. It will be the first time, Paramount notes, such a preview has been made available in IMAX 3D.

Several sequences in the upcoming movie were captured with IMAX cameras, and Paramount claims they will bring "unprecedented crispness and clarity" into the Star Trek experience.
