Beauty may only be skin deep, but love? That's in your bones.
The Ad Council's latest PSA aims to show that beneath our superficial qualities, we're all humans. The three-minute video, filmed on Valentine's Day in Santa Monica, California, asks significant others, friends and siblings to pose behind a giant x-ray screen. It shows the audience kissing, dancing and hugging skeletons.
The couples then emerge revealing their differences to the crowd -- some are gay, some are different races and others come from different religions.
But, ultimately, the message remain the same: Love has no labels.
"While the vast majority of Americans consider themselves unprejudiced, many of us unintentionally make snap judgments about people based on what we see — whether it’s race, age, gender, religion, sexuality or disability," according to the video's YouTube description. "This may be a significant reason many people in the U.S. report they feel discriminated against. Subconscious prejudice — called 'implicit bias' — has profound implications for how we view and interact with others who are different from us."
The PSA promotes the Ad Council's year-long campaign, which hopes to draw attention to, and end, implicit bias. The "Love Has No Labels" website also includes stories from people who have experienced a form of prejudice, as well as quizzes and tips on how to stop implicit bias.
