Satirical 'Africa for Norway' Group Offers Aid to Freezing Scandinavians

Norwegian group Radi-Aid thinks there's enough sob stories out their about the dire situation in Africa. That's why it launched a YouTube campaign on behalf of freezing children in Norway, one of the Scandinavian countries with a long, rough winter.

Of course, the spirit of the video is satire. African youth are not in fact sending radiators up to Norway's frigid population. The music video aims to shed light on the positive activity going on in Africa, arguing that the continent is less of a mess than is sometimes portrayed.

The Norwegian Students’ and Academics’ International Assistance Fund created the video, hoping to drive funds toward solutions rather than exploiting stereotypes.

"Imagine if every person in Africa saw the 'Africa for Norway' video and this was the only information they ever got about Norway. What would they think about Norway?," said a statement from the group. "If we say Africa, what do you think about? Hunger, poverty, crime or AIDS? No wonder, because in fundraising campaigns and media that's mainly what you hear about."

Do you think the campaign's effective? Let us know in the comments if you agree with Radi-Aid's approach.
