Security Vulnerability Found in AOL Instant Messenger

Security vulnerabilities are once again in the news, this time with AOL Instant Messenger. This report comes from Core Security Technologies, and says that users of AIM versions 6.1, 6.2, beta, AIM Pro, and AIM Lite, which allow users to embed HTML code in messages, may be at risk for attack. In theory, an attacker could place malicious code into a message that exploits known security weaknesses in Internet Explorer.

AOL has said that it believes the issue has been resolved, but another security researcher claims to have found a way to defeat AOL’s fix. Meanwhile, Core Security suggests using a non-effected version of AIM.

We’ve recently also reported on security vulnerabilities with Gmail and the Ask Toolbar.
