The folks at Amazee, on the other hand, claim that Amazon has gotten its name from the world's largest river, while their name is derived from the English word "amazing". They highlight a quote from Amazon's intellectual property department: "... the mark AMAZEE is not a natural derivative of “amazing”. Amazee is a coined term where the dominant portion of the mark brings to mind Amazon, not 'amazing." I'm really not sure why "amazee" would call to mind the Amazon instead of "amazing"; especially if you try to pronounce the word out loud.
Amazee's target audience is activists, so they're hoping that their users will side with them. Therefore they're calling on them (you can login to the site with your OpenSocial credentials) to participate in a poll and vote on the matter. Funny detail: voters also participate in a draw where the winner gets a $100 Amazon voucher.
