Organic microwave meal-maker Amy's Kitchen is recalling thousands of boxes of its food after one of its spinach suppliers reported possible listeria contamination.

According to the recall notice, the spinach may contain listeria monocytogenes, an organism that causes infections that can be fatal for elderly people, small children and others with compromised immune systems, according to the Food and Drug Administration. The notice also notes that listeria can also cause miscarriages and stillbirths in pregnant women and may result in short-term flu-like symptoms.

The northern California-based food brand said that, as of Monday, there had not been any reported cases of illness due to the potential contamination. In a statement, Amy's said it made the decision "out of an abundance of caution."

Listeriosis, the disease caused by listeria, infects around 1,600 people and kills about 260 in the United States each year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Last week, three people were killed by listeriosis linked to Blue Bell ice cream.

The Amy's Kitchen recall covers 73,897 packages across 19 different products in the United States and Canada. The meals listed include vegetable lasagna, spinach pizza and tofu scrambles. Customers are urged to throw these meals out or return them to the store for a full refund.

A full list of recalled products can be found on the FDA's website.
