Apple's iTunes Grows by 500,000 New Accounts Daily

Apple revealed during its worldwide developers conference on Monday that it has 575 million iTunes accounts, and if one analyst's calculations are correct, the company should pass 600 million in the next two months.

Horace Dediu, an analyst with Asymco, crunched the numbers Apple has disclosed in the past and found that the company is currently on a rate of adding about 500,000 new iTunes accounts each day.

That massive user base speaks to the scope of Apple's ecosystem and will likely make it a formidable competitor in other product categories, such as the recently launched radio streaming service or its much-rumored entry into the mobile payments space.
