Los Angeles-based director and artist Jeff McCarthy is the painter behind the project, which plants the likes of Taylor Swift, Nick Offerman and Aziz Ansari on delightful watercolor renderings of sandwiches.

McCarthy tells Mashable via email that the idea came to him while snacking on a fully-loaded Italian sandwich. He and his girlfriend were discussing Ansari's very public love for food when it occurred to him that it might be funny to paint the two together. Since posting his first painting, he's done 13 portraits and has more on the way.
His work has even garnered attention from some of his celebrity subjects, including Silicon Valley's Thomas Middleditch who reposted the image to his own Instagram.
"There's an absurdity to it that people seem to like," he said. "Our culture's fascination with celebrities is kind of crazy, so the idea of bringing some humor to it all just made sense."
