Charlie Day found the perfect motivation for this year's graduates. It's not about fame or fortune: It's about the hats.

Actor, writer and producer Charlie Day spoke at his alma mater, Merrimack College in North Andover, Massachusetts, on Sunday. Day bolstered the class of 2014 with plenty of inspiration while infusing his keynote address with his signature comedic style. The actor encouraged students to work hard and seize opportunities, and also offered the helpful insight that "the higher you climb in life, the more ridiculous your hats will become.”

But Day's ultimate lesson was to take risks. The students roared as Day closed his address by saying, "I don't give a shit. You cannot let a fear of failure, or the fear or comparison, or the fear of judgment stop you from doing what's going to make you great."

Day was also awarded an honorary doctorate during the ceremony.

"I can't wait to start writing prescriptions immediately," he joked.

Day may not be a Fortune 500 CEO or famous entrepreneur, but he knows what graduates really need to hear as they take the next steps into adulthood.
