The holidays are an especially difficult time of year for people who have experienced trauma or loss.

On Christmas Day, Courtney Love posted a photo of herself with Kurt Cobain and their child, Frances Bean, who was an infant at the time.

"Merry Christmas Kurt, the greatest true love I've ever experienced in my life," Love wrote in the Instagram caption. "You gave me the gift that makes life worth living, our incredibly talented, loving, beautiful and gifted daughter Frances Bean Cobain."

Cobain committed suicide in 1994. Montage of Heck, a documentary exploring his life and relationship with Love, was released earlier this year to critical acclaim.

That Christmas moment in everyones lives that you never forget, the one that makes you feel on top of the world, where the greatest gifts are the loved ones you shared that moment with. Well this is mine, I'm grateful to have ever experienced that moment. Merry Christmas Kurt, the greatest true love I've ever experienced in my life. You gave me the gift that makes life worth living, our incredibly talented, loving, beautiful and gifted daughter Frances Bean Cobain.
