A local man opened fire in a Czech restaurant on Tuesday, killing at least eight people, a mayor in the Czech Republic said.

The shooting took place in Uhersky Brod, a town in the Zlín Region about 190 miles southeast of Prague near the Slovakia border.

Patrik Kuncar, mayor of the southeastern town, added that the shooter, a man around 60, was also dead.

Interior Minister Milan Chovanec was quoted by two Czech media outlets as saying that eight people had been killed. No motive for the shooting has been established yet.

Czech public service broadcaster Ceska Televize said that riot police entered the restaurant shortly before 3:30 p.m. local time. There were 20 people in the building at the time of the incident.

The broadcaster also reported that a female waitress was in a serious but stable condition in hospital after she was shot twice.

Here's video footage of the police operation at the restaurant, from the regional public service broadcaster, Události Brno:

The interior minister, Milan Chovanec, was en route to the town. He said in a tweet that the shooting was not an act of terrorism.
